Tuesday, May 9th marked Keren Or’s, 13th annual Women's Division Gala Luncheon in New York City, hosted in support of the extraordinary work performed at our Jerusalem Center.  Always an inspirational and elegant afternoon, this year's luncheon was a great success.

Division Chair, Marilyn Lauer paid tribute to the guest of honor, Harriet Muss, a generous and devoted founding member of the Women's Division board.  The short presentations that followed included a moving video clip, featuring some of our multi-disabled blind students and commentary from a few friends that have supported us throughout the years. Kari Levine, a former volunteer at the Center reflected on her own experience with the Keren Or community and has passed along the importance of that legacy to her family. Her daughter, now participating in a post-high school gap-year program in Israel, is fulfilling her own volunteer service at the school.

Undoubtedly, the afternoon's highlight could be credited to our keynote speaker, a man of deep faith and an outspoken supporter of the State of Israel, former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee. In his address, Mr. Huckabee commemorated the Jewish people's biblical claim and exclusive rights to the entire land, and reiterated his conviction that Jerusalem must remain undivided. Resulting in a standing ovation, he pledged the commitment of the United States government to Israel's ongoing welfare.   He spoke of Keren Or's important role in Israel; assisting families and aiding in the advancement of young people with serious disabilities. Excited by the dedication to this important work, he promised to visit the Center on his next visit to Israel.

Located in the beautiful neighborhood of Ramot, overlooking Jerusalem, the Keren Or Center cares exclusively for blind, multiply disabled youth. Individualized programs are tailored to the unique needs of each child, providing therapeutic, educational, social, spiritual and cultural tools to maximize his or her potential. The mission of Keren Or’s Women’s Division is to continue to provide resources to support enrichment programs that enhance the children's happiness and well being.
