Keren Or Jerusalem Center for Blind Children with Multiple Disabilities addresses the complex needs of children in Israel who are both blind or visually impaired and also cognitively, developmentally, and/or physically disabled. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, nurturing, and stimulating educational, social, and rehabilitative therapies designed to help students reach their full potential and lead lives that are as fulfilling, productive, and interactive as possible. Our facilities, dedicated staff, and individualized therapy programs allow each of our students to reach his or her maximum potential.
Keren Or is the only center of its kind in the world under Jewish auspices devoted exclusively to this population. We aim to limit the economic burden on families and rely on funds from the state, local municipalities, and generous donors. Approximately two-thirds of our operating budget is funded by the Israeli Ministry of Education (1/3) and the Israeli Ministry of Welfare (1/3). The remaining one-third is provided through donations from individuals and foundations.
Keren Or’s New York office supports the Center in Jerusalem by communicating with and engaging donors. The office also provides opportunities for Bar/Bat Mitzvah-aged children, high school and college students, and young professionals to become involved with and support our mission on the ground in Israel. Our Women’s Division is active in outreach and fundraising efforts, hosting a variety of social and cultural activities to connect potential and current supporters with our mission. Our Keren Or Board is very involved in the advocacy and oversite of our work.
